Nutrients for our most important organ

The brain processes and stores an inconceivable amount of information every day. Transmission of signals between the individual nerve cells plays an important role. To be able to fulfill its function the brain requires sufficient supplementation of specific nutrients. These nutrients include vitamins like vitamin B6, B12 and folic acid as well as magnesium. These vitamins combined with magnesium help to minimize fatigue and exhaustion and contribute to the normal function of the nervous system. Additionally, they support the energy metabolism.
Folic acid sustains blood formation, cell division and the immune system. Vitamin E adds to the effect of the B vitamins and magnesium, mainly due to its role in protection of cells against oxidative stress.

Vitamin D – a useful supplement

In addition to vitamin E, magnesium, B vitamins and Rhodiola rosea, vigodana contains vitamin D. According to recent scientific findings, vitamin D does not only contribute to a balanced calcium level and therefore supports the bones, it also spurs the activity of the immune system.
Furthermore, vitamin D adds to the effect of folic acid on cell division and that of magnesium on maintenance of normal muscle function.

Why choosing a nutritional supplement?

The above mentioned substances can only partially be produced by our body. Vitamin D, for example, can only be produced by the skin under influence of sun light. Mainly during the winter months the sun is not strong enough to guarantee a sufficient production of vitamin D. Additionally, from the age of 65 the ability of the skin to produce vitamin D decreases. vitamin E can only be produced by plants and therefore is only available in food. B vitamins and magnesium also have to be supplemented with nutrition. But this may not always be sufficient. Only a few food products contain vitamin D (e.g. cod liver oil, herring, salmon, eggs). With increasing age, appetite decreases which leads to restricted intake of nutrients. Depending on age, less vitamins from food pass into the blood through the bowel. vigodana® provides a well balanced nutritional supplementation.

What else can you do for yourself?

Sufficient drinking, a balanced diet, memory training and physical activity are important factors to be able to maintain mental performance. With age, thirst decreases and regular drinking may be forgotten. This may lead to thickening of blood and therefore to an insufficient supply of the brain and other organs with oxygen.
Drink about 1.5 to 2 liters of mineral water or unsweetened fruit juice or herbal teas to cover your liquid requirements. Keep mentally demanded. Small changes in the daily routine, e.g. working with your left instead of your right hand, lead to the release new impulses and stimulate your brain. Frequent physical activity is also important – preferably outside – it not only trains the body but also the mind. Physical activity leads to a better circulation of the brain and therefore supports memory performance.
